I have had this idea in my head for a while, I finally got it out! I wore that crazy shingle name tag during my kid's Marching Band years! I got more attention at away events that it really got me thinking. So I started collecting all these items that could be the base badge part. The "Joann" and the "Shirley" are both made on some old grocery store name tags, but in the future I will show what else I can concoct! Click on the pic and see all the details enlarged!

Looking for Another Job

I finished this project in September and by October 23rd I was walking out on my Publix Produce Manager. This happened a week after I returned from my Grandmother's funeral and I was still feeling the loss. From the beginning, she didn't want me in the Floral Department and couldn't find anything nice to say about any of my work. I had been warned about working for her, but I was sure that I could win her over with my talent and customer interaction!
I am "Special", you know!!!
She is just one of those people that shouldn't be dealing with the public, let alone managing other Publix associates! I just snapped under the pressure because I couldn't take another of her complaints, rude sales floor behavior, condescending attitude and the inability to hear me. She got me with her finger pointing (literally!), her threats, her over buying, and contradictions of tasks. I don't regret a thing, except it was a lousy time to quit a job and a paycheck! It is a shame that she had to ruin it because I loved that store, I had worked for Publix 11 years and I worked very hard to please her with hardly any breaks. The reality was. . . I really wasn't using my full potential artistically -and that-. . . I believe, is a sin.
Please send me some Comment Love!

Beautiful Boutonniere
So you saw my first arrangement earlier on July 27th, 2008, now- here is my first boutonniere. Hanna says that it needed more baby's breath for balance, but I thought it was pretty darn good!Wednesday, July 30, 2008

My New Job
I have been on my new floral job since July 7th, and here is a photo of my first attempt at making an arrangement. It has 1 dozen red and yellow roses. Not bad for a 1st try! I have to keep the department fresh and stocked. I also make balloon bouquets and water the plants! So much better than my last Publix position in Pricing! Leave me a comment!Florist Cyndi

Another Wednesday Off
Here I am and its a Wednesday, I usually work on this day, but my hours were cut ---again!I need a new job. The grocery business wasn't my first choice, but it was a regular paycheck and it was sort of something like art. I can't rely on that now either. At least my "chops" are up.
So- here is one of my swaps. It was for Canvas Painting on Swap-bot and I made it for Kristin. She loved it.

Memorial Day

For Memorial Day, my store manager and meat department manager made this 16foot grill for the store lobby. My part was to make the hamburgers, hot dogs and utensils to go on that grill!
The handles for the barbecue fork, spatula, tongs and skewer are made from the tubes that the Pepsi guy brings for his signs (32 inches long). They are similar to paper towel tubes, but thicker and coated with a slick, white finish that was easy to paint. I formed the metal ends out of baling wire. I mixed up some traditional paper mache' paste of flour and water to dip the newspaper in and wrap around the wire shapes. The hamburger patties are the scrub pads from the store's floor cleaning machine(2 stacked together then sprayed brown). The hot dogs are pool noodles (I trimmed the ends, the painted red, not forgetting the black grill marks). The kabob items, hamburger and hot dog buns are also made of paper mache'. I used cheap spray paint to finish!
Hope you had a great holiday and wished our war heroes all the best!

2008 Italian Fest

At Publix, we have been celebrating Italian Fest with special sales the last 2 weeks. The store manager, Dan, gave me some projects to design, paint and display in the lobby for this occassion. The photos are of my Italian creations; Pointe Vecchio (Merchant Bridge in Florence) and 2 garden areas. The bridge background is made with 2- 8x4 foamcore boards and the buildings & bridge are also cut out of foam board and duct tape roofs. The sculptures in the garden are painted foam board the is cut around the edge. The gardens are accented with wine bottles and loaves of bread.Arrivederci!

Publix Associate Scrapbook
Today I have been working on the opening page of the Publix Associate Scrapbook. I found these cariatures that look similar to the Store Manager, Dan Black and the Assistant Store Manager, Steve Fox. I used CorelDraw, PhotoImpact and some clipart banners. I think that it looks pretty cute and is a nice look for a grocery store memory album!Having fun, CyndiLou

Publix Holiday Decore
Before the holiday season is totally over, I had to share the foamcore props that I made for the Hamilton Mill Publix. They are a take off of our old plywood lawn ornaments from the '90's, but so much easier to cut out! And. . .No painting! In the past, I have made penguins, polar bears, bunnies, frogs -all out of foamcore.(I'll show you more in the future!) I put them up for HolidayFest in November and they are probably taking them down as we blog! Bye ---see you next season!Designlogist CyndiLou

Publix Penguins
Speaking of Publix Super Market, Penguins were a favorite theme this year. The Hamilton Mill Publix used these sign holders for speciality adds during the holiday season. Of course, I designed them in November for their Holiday Fest event. They are made out of Foam Core Board and painted with acrylics and markers. Let me know if you need the pattern.CyndiLou

Menu Tent Cards
Last week, at work,(Hamilton Mill Publix) I had the opportunity to create these holiday menu cards for the Taste of Mill Creek. Publix had a booth there and served about 16 different entree & side items to ticket holders. I heard it was a grand success!Designer CyndiLou
P.S. Happy Birthday Hanna!
